Issue #57 - "Light Your Fire" by Will Holmes Jr. - April 2007

Introduction:
It’s time for real leaders to step up. I see a lot of things going on around us recently. I see negative things like the Virginia Tech shooting, students physically fighting with their teachers, the Don Imus/Rutgers basketball team situation, discussions on the use of the “N” word… but I’ve also seen those negative things be used to turn into positive movements, and I’ve seen positive things happen in other areas – churches taking a stand in their communities, the rich giving back more and more to the poor, young people pledging to live their lives against what statistics say... And, most importantly, among all these things, I’ve noticed people with power and influence (which includes those that never would have thought they DID have it) become leaders of people in a positive direction of empowerment, self-worth, hope, strength, growth, spiritual enlightenment and the search for a better way.

We all have the ability to incite change. The question is, when will you take a stand for what’s right? Don’t let the LIGHT God has given you remain in darkness...

LIGHT YOUR FIRE by Will Holmes Jr.

Listen up people,
Let no MAN say you’re not equal
And NO ONE can be your sequel...
Our overcoming power is too lethal.
Beautiful since we left the fetal...
Position...
Load up your mental & spiritual ammunition,
I’m sending you on a mission:
Find your ambition and plan out your goals with exact precision.
To make the right decision... Sometimes you must listen...
To the Lord, through your heart.
I’d rather see us together than apart.
Time to be head-smart,
Perfect your positive art.
Move up the chart, aim your dart...
BULLSEYE, time to take off and fly.

Are you reaching for the sky?
Or for another man’s piece of the pie?
Time to cut your own slice of the American dream,
Keep it clean, life is tough it may seem,
But just wait on your beam... of light.
I told you it’s time to take flight
Do what’s right, change your reaction type...
Peace instead of Fight...

Everybody suspects the black,
But no reason to attack,
Learn how to react...
Don’t win a battle while losing the war...
Channel your aggression,
You gotta learn:
Life’s one lesson... After another,
So if he falls, lift up your brother...
... or sister...

Earn your blister...
By walking the walk,
After talking the talk.
Nobody said you were at fault...
For your mistake,
Just don’t be fake,
There’s too much at stake,
You could end up drowning in the lake...
... of fire

Job posting says: Soldier for Hire.
Pay is cheap, but the reward is great,
So, is there really any need for debate?

Many people aren’t getting the help they need
Too many have found greed,
Forgotten the good deed,
I’m just trying to plant a seed...
And get the chance to watch it grow...
The more I speak, the more you’ll know
Brighter your light will glow
Among the dark,
Light the spark...
YOU EARNED,
Help me carry the torch...
Or just... get... burned!

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a
bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
